Need a laugh? Read this nonsense!

OMFG! I cannot believe the stupidity! How did the ancient Aztecs, Toltecs, and Mayans build Empires, astrological observatories, and roads from one end of South America to the other, without cats? By respecting and relying on their natural predators, of course!

“Cats are probably the most important species in existence for mankind. We never could have gone from hunter-gatherers to an agricultural society without them,” Carr said. “Imagine life without cats out there killing all of the mice and rats. It would be awful,” They give us a higher quality of life, and we owe them something for that,” Carr said.

We hace consistantly lost a huge portion of our grain crop rat droppings in areas where cats are endemic. Egypt is a great example. Rat feces are an accepted part of many of our processed foods. Cats by their very nature are poor ratters. Unless they are hunting with a dog to dig them out they have poo rchances of catching many rats. Field mice are poorer chances still. In any cae birds make up 20% or more of their diet-depending on the seasons.

Had I been overseer of grain storage in any primitive society I'd have tried adding non-poisonous snakes to the equation.
They don't eat grain, and their natural diet is rodents. There are millions of pet cobras in India, and they don't upset the balance of nature as cats do.

You are smart. It is what they used. THere were keepers of snakes who bred them and use them to control rats. The rat snake is a prolific eater and will eat oftne as opose dto other sname shwo may eat once amonth.

Thank you, rking8. The logical thing is often the right thing to do, whereas there is nothing logical about millions of pets loose in our streets.
